I am an experienced Educational Psychologist and was a primary school class teacher before
this. I worked as an educational psychologist in two local authorities for 32 years. Within my work
I had a specialism in Hearing Impairment, an interest in supporting young people on the autism
spectrum and their families and in working in the Early Years age range. I work with young
people from birth to 25 years.

I am used to carrying out cognitive assessments but prefer to use a consultation and evidence
based assessments approach. I will spend time carrying out observations in the classroom, playground and at home where appropriate.

I like to liaise and work with any other involved professionals.

I am also deeply interested in practical art and may use a creative approach in my work.

What I can provide

  • Initial consultation with parents to discuss concerns and agree type of involvement
    needed.
  • Home/school consultation with parents and relevant staff.
  • Gaining of the young person’s views using person centred approaches.
  • Carrying out observations.
  • Individual work with the young person as appropriate.
    • (This may include use of art and craft / creative approaches).
  • Following written consultation report;
    • Home/school meeting to agree and discuss actions and ways forward.
    • Review after 6-8 weeks.

Areas covered:

I have experience in working with children and young people aged 0 to 25 with a range
of needs including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Communication and Interaction including:
    • Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
    • Selective mutism (SM)
  • Cognition and Learning – including cognitive assessment
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health including:
    • Anxiety – including emotionally-based school non-attendance
    • Attachment and trauma
    • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • Friendship issues
  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs including:
    • Physical disabilities (hearing and visual impairment)
    • Sensory sensitivities arising from other needs (such as ASC)

I prefer to refer to a young person having specific learning difficulties rather than ‘dyslexia’
following detailed cognitive and literacy assessments.

I do not formally diagnose autism spectrum conditions, attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder or dyspraxia. These need to be diagnosed by a medical/ health care professional
.

I do not wish to be involved in work leading to SEN Tribunals.

I can also provide:

  • Training to staff and parents which are individualised to requirements.
  • Interventions for groups/ classes.
  • Support for staff
  • Support for parents.

“I believe from my experience over many years as a class teacher, educational psychologist and
as a parent that every child can achieve and succeed at their own level especially if they are
motivated and have the right holistic support”.

An Essential Information form and a Parental Consent form must be completed before EP
involvement.
